the form of line maps and also survey data and information through
the study of aerial photographs.
Line maps have been prepared in large numbers to a scale of 1: 400
to 1: 40.000. These maps have been used in the planning and design
of traffic, housing projects, roads, pipe-lines, harbours, hydro-electric
power projects, estate rationalization etc. Table 4 shows the extent of
line-map production drawn on different scales during the past four
years as reported to the Swedish Society of Photogrammetry.
Photogrammetric surveying has also been used in the measurement
of profiles and cross-sections of roads. A corresponding method has
been used in mass calculations of sand pits, town planning areas, and
water storage.
Instruments
The quality of instruments in Sweden has successively been bettered
and the number increased, all in keeping with the demand and newer
development in technique. The proqurement of a Wild Stereocompa
rator (StK 824) by the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm,
may be mentioned as an example. There are, at present, about 50
stereo-instruments of first and second order in Sweden, some of which
are equipped with instruments for registration of coordinates.
The electronic distance measuring instruments, the Geodimeter and
the Tellurometer, should be mentioned here as an important comple
ment to the photogrammetric equipment. These have to a large degree,
facilitated the procurement of pass points for photogrammetric sur
veying.
Data processing
Rapid developments have also taken place in the technique of data-
processing. Thus the following photogrammetric programs were in use
in Sweden at the end of the year 1963.
1. Coordinate transformations.
