XITH INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS 
OF PHOTOGRAMMETRY 
Since the spheres of interest of both the Photogrammetric Society of 
South Africa and the Institute of Topographical and Engineering 
Surveyors of. South Africa include Rhodesia, information supplied in 
respect of the latter country appears in the South African National 
Report. This report has been compiled on behalf of the above society 
and institute by P.L. Meadows from information supplied by the South 
African Rapporteurs of the I.S.P. Technical Commissions and other 
sources. 
COMMISSION I. PHOTOGRAPHY AND NAVIGATION 
Rapporteur: Mr. P.M. Smuts 
The Trigsurvey Office continues to maintain full photographic cover of 
the Republic, rephotographing some 60,000 sq. miles annually, with wide 
and super-wide angle cameras. A limited amount of research and experi 
mental work has been undertaken in the application of colour, false 
colour and infra-red photography in topographic mapping, forestry and 
soiI conservation. Final results of these experiments are awaited. 
COMMISSION I I. THEORY, METHODS AND INSTRUMENTS OF RESTITUTION 
Rapporteur: Prof. W. Mará 
Instrumentation in South Africa and Rhodesia includes the following 
major items of equipment distributed among governmental, commercial and 
educational institutions. 
Stereocomparators: Zeiss PSK, HiIger & Watts, Nistri TA3/A, WiId STK. 
Stereoplotters: Wild A5, A6, A7, A8, A9, B8, B9; Zeiss C8, Stereo 
tope; Nistri Beta 2, Photomapper; Kelsh; Kern PG2; 
Stereos impI ex II, III, Stereomicrometer. 
Research topics have included model deformations resulting from orient 
ation and scaling procedures, as well as improved orientation precedures 
leading to a theoretical improvement of 25% in planimetry.
