micro die while in contact with the emulsion. The operator has the capability to
vary the mark contrast and density.
b. The Variscale Stereo Point Marking Instrument (VSPMI) is an optical -
mechanical precision instrument designed to rapidly identify, select, and mark
conjugate points on stereo pairs of aerial photographs. It can accept photographic
images on glass or film; stereoscopic viewing is possible at continuously variable
magnification; parallax removal and selection of conjugate points are accomplished
through use of the "floating dot" principle; points can either be transferred or
simultaneously be marked on both photographs; outputs consist of marked plates
and punched cards; marking capabilities vary through a large range; positive
prints of the photographic images are mounted on convenient display panels. As
the input is scanned, a spot of light, projected onto the prints from behind, in
dicates the actual location of the optical system axis.
c. An Air Bearing Attachment has been produced for the Bausch and Lomb
Universal Tracing Table (used with projector-type plotting instruments); it makes
it possible for the table to glide on a cushion of air off the plotter surface without
friction and without wear. Compressed air is filtered and passes through a hose
to the attachment and three orifices in the bottom of the device. Attachment to
the tracing table is accomplished simply and quickly. The device is especially
desirable in those cases where other attachments (pantograph, etc.) need to be
fastened to the tracing table; it prevents smearing or tearing of the manuscript;
and it also eliminates the adjustment or replacement of foot pads.
d. A number of versions of the Balplex Plotter have been developed. These
include the Balplex 400 Rotter (120°), Balplex 525 Plotter, and the Balplex 760
Plotter. The 400 Plotter is a 4. 5X enlargement plotter equipped with two Balplex
Superwide Angle Projectors, built-in Semiautomatic Illumination Control, and a
slate top. The 525 Plotter is a 3. 5X enlargement plotter and the 760 Plotter is a
5X enlargement plotter; both have slate top tables. Optional tables capable of
utilizing nine 525 projectors, six 760 projectors, or twelve multiplex projectors
are available as well.
BENDEX RESEARCH LABORATORIES AND OTTICO MECCANICA ITALIA NO,
COMPOSITE EFFORT.
A number of requirements for analytical and automatic photogrammetric
equipment have been established during the period 1964-68. Implementation of
some of these requirements has been accomplished generally by the combined
efforts of the Ottico Meccanica Italiano (OMI) company, Italy, and the Bendix
Research Laboratories (BRL), USA. Included are the following: Analytical Stereo
plotters, Models AS-11A, AS-11B-1, AS-11B, and AS-11C/TU; Automatic Analog
Analytical Stereoplotter, Model C. A. D.; and the Automated Three-Stage Stereo-
comparator with On-line Computer.
a. Analytical Stereoplotter, AS-11A. This is a high accuracy stereo
plotter with aerial triangulation and plotting capabilities and which accepts varied
photography. Its characteristics are:
