The first part studies the development of architectural photogrammetry from 1850 to
1950 ; this development is characterised principally by the substitution of the graphical methods A
of recording photography by stereophotogrammetric methods. Two chapters deal with the survey e» a
of monuments, and include a critical description of the methods. Then a general review of recent
current projects shows the world-wide range of the projects and leads to an account of the
principal types of these surveys. Certain aspects of the surveys (form, deformations, inter-
pretation, ...) are then studied together, with the introduction of photogrammetry in the building
works. The fifth chapter deals with teaching. The conclusion emphasises on the one hand, the
efforts necessary for the extension of teaching and for the modification of methods, and on the
other, the urgency - on an international plane - for the setting up of photogrammetric archives
of historic buildings.
