PREFACE
Compania Mexicana Aerofoto, S. A., authorized by the Department of Agrarian Affairs
and Colonization (1), has been taking part in surveying and locating large tracts of land
in the Mexican Republic, which, through legal provision, should come under the control of the
nation in order to satisfy agrarian needs.
Th carrying out of the afore-mentioned task has required studies, through different
methods, of two million square kilometers which is the total area of the Mexican Republic.
The Agrarian Department considered convenient to seek help trom private companies to
develop this research; (2) among these, Compania Mexicana Aerofoto, S. A., has been
playing a special role, considering that it has surveyed 65% of the area covered up until
now.
It is believed to be of general interest to present a resume of the works that were
carried out, on land location, to the delegates of the International Society of Photogram-
metry in their meeting at Lausanne; as they were presented in the last annual meeting
of the ACSM and ASP last March, at Washington, D. C. U.S.A,, where the technicians from
different countries discussed their experiencies on the matter, setting the bases for future
similar projects.
One should therefore consider this publication as the specific contribution of the Compañia
Mexicana Aeroofto, S. A., and in no way should it be considered as the official report
of the Mexican Government.

(1) The Department of Agrarian Affairs and Colonization is the Mexican Government body,
authorized by the law for the management of all matters related to land tenure.
(2) The possibility of participation by some foreing companies was analyzed, but as will
be explained below, it was considered to be unnecessary.
