ADDRESS OF PROF. HALLERT AT THE FAREWELL BANQUET
OF THE INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF PHOTOGRAMMETRY,
15 SEPTEMBER 1952.
Mr. President, Ladies, and Gentlemen:
This wonderful congress will soon be listed among the passed great events
in the history of photogrammetry. We have shared a very fine time together
and have seen an excellent demontstration of the development of our science
during the past 4 years. It is much too early to say what has been most intest
ing here and I think we will have to read much before such a judgment can be
made.
Now we look forward to the next congress. Surely there will be much
accomplished during the coming 4 years and we will probably see many new
instruments, many new methods, and new applications in Stockholm. There
are still very important questions waiting for complete answers. I would not
try at this time to indicate the lines of research that are most desirable. The
development will take its own course and it is now difficult to see which the
direction will be.
It is, however, most important that theoretical and applied research be
continued, without interruption. It is also very important that there are people
who can combine the theoretical and applied research with practical experience.
Especially in our science this combination is necessary. The scientist must often
work with complicated stereoscopic instruments to develop the practical point
of view.
Let us hope that our science will constructively develop without fear, prej
udice, or interruption during the coming years and that the congress in Stock
holm may constitute another milestone in the development of the scientific
and practical importance of our work.
We are very happy in Sweden to have the great honor and confidence to
organize the next congress and we will do our best.
On behalf of the Swedish Society of Photogrammetry, I will say that all
of you in this big family of photogrammetrists, ary very welcome to Stock
holm in 1956.
ALLOCUTION DU PROFESSEUR HALLERT AU BANQUET D’ADIEU
DE LA SOCIETE INTERNATIONALE DE PHOTOGRAMMETRIE.
15 SEPTEMBRE 1952.
