86 square miles (220 km 2 ) have been photographed with the 6" Ordnance Survey
Camera.
For geological purposes 32,500 square miles (84,000 km 2 ) have been photo
graphed at a scale of 1:40,000 using the 6" Ordnance Survey Camera and the
6" Eagle IX. 3,900 square miles (10,000 km 2 ) have been photographed at a
scale of 1:30,000 with the 6" Eagle IX and 2,000 square miles (5,200 km 2 ) at
at scale of 1:21,000 using the 6" Ordnance Survey Camera.
For town planning, about 2,000 square miles (5,200 km 2 ) have been photo
graphed at a scale larger than 1:25,000 using the 6" K17 camera. The 25"
Ordnance Survey Camera has been used to photograph 18 square miles (47 km 2 )
at a scale of 1:3,000 and 39 square miles (100 km 2 ) at a scale of 1:7,000. The
20" Eagle IX has been used to photograph 7 square miles (18 km 2 ) at a scale of
1:4,000 and the 6" Eagle IX for 7 square miles (18 km 2 ) at a scale of 1:5,000.
Under the heading of town planning and development the 210 mm Wild RC-5
camera has photographed 1,040 square miles (2,700 km 2 ) at a scale of 1:10,000
and 300 square miles (780 km 2 ) at a scale of 1:15,000. The 6" Eagle IX has
covered 150 square miles (400 km 2 ) at a scale of 1:25,000.
For forestry applications 163 square miles (420 km 2 ) have been photographed
at a scale of 1:15,000 using the 6" Eagle IX camera.
Finland
Total photography for the 1948-51 period was 88,000 km 2 (34,000 square
miles).
Photography for topographic purposes and for planning and taxation of
estates has covered 68,000 km 2 (26,000 square miles) at a scale of 1:20,000.
This was photographed with the Zeiss Aerotopograph RMK HS 20-5/1818, a
Reiherimesskammer (automatic survey camera) with focal length of 20-5 cm
and a picture size of 18 x 18 cm. 16,000 km 2 (6,200 square miles) have been
photographed for forestry and geology at scales of 1:20,000 and 1:40,000 using
the 20-5 cm Aerotopograph and the 10 cm Aerotopograph. Photography for
use in region and town planning, the planning of water power and building has
covered 4,000 km 2 (1,500 square miles) at scales of 1:10,000 and 1:20,000 with
the same two camera types.
France
The total area covered in the four year period was 3,184,000 km 2 (1,230,000
square miles); somewhat more than one-third of this photography was done
on plates.
For general mapping and topography 3,045,000 km 2 (1,180,000 square miles)
were photographed. Of this 2,460,000 km 2 (950,000 square miles) were photo
graphed at scales between 1:40,000 and 1:50,000. 609,000 km 2 (235,000 square
miles) of this were photographed with the Poivilliers SOM plate camera which
holds 96 plates, each 19 x 19 cm and has a focal length of 125 mm. The
