Defence Equipment. Owing to security restrictions it is not practicable to
report fully on the development of cameras and instruments for military pur
poses. The latest requirements of speed and altitude mean that virtually every
existing type of camera is being redesigned, and a number of experimental
radical solutions are being developed. The military programme combined with
the rapid development of air survey methods in the United Kingdom has given
a great impetus to the design of new equipment.
Conclusion. The practical approach of the British photogrammetrists is
reflected in the development of the equipment. Hardly any method of con
struction is developed unless there is a clear operational or economical need.
This approach has resulted in a very rapid development of instrumental plott
ing of a high standard, and in the provision of adequate supplies of precision
instruments for a continually increasing mapping programme.
