representation from one country and the method of casting votes. Those
present were requested to consider the problem and be prepared to discuss it
further at the next business meeting.
The question, previously discussed at the last Congress as to whether the
International Society should apply for membership in the International Council
of Scientific Unions or try to affiliate with some UNESCO organization, was
raised. The sense of the discussion was unanimously against affiliation with the
International Council of Scientific Unions unless the International Society of
Photogrammetry was accepted as an independent union. No objection existed
to affiliation of other sections of the other unions with photogrammetry but
photogrammetry was to be entirely independent. Advantage should be taken,
however, of obtaining an informal opinion from the International Council as
to the possibility of the acceptance of the International Society of Photogram
metry as an independent union in order that this opinion could be made
available to the various member societies prior to making final decision. Presi
dent Reading was requested to solicit this infromation.
A letter from Professor Cassinis, a member of the Council, was read. This
letter indicated that the names of Mr. Santoni and Mr. Nistri had been placed
in nomination at the last meeting at the Hague as honorary members. Lack of
time prevented careful consideration of the nomination and it was Professor
Cassinis’ desire to renew the nomination at the present Congress. Members were
asked to consider carefully this renewed nomination and any other nominations
which are appropriate in order that the matter of honorary membership might
be considered further at the business meeting prior to the last plenary session.
Attention was directed to the necessity of considering invitations which
might be received for the next Congress since decision would have to be
reached at the final plenary session.
