Determination of Movements and Positions of the Body.
It has been briefly mentioned above that it is possible to make careful
studies of the movements of the foot at normal walk by the aid of lamps,
placed on suitable points of the foot, or by stroboscope. An open stereo-
camera registered the movements of the lamps in an otherwise dark room.
This method to make the measuring points draw their own way on the
photographic material is a method very much suitable for many purposes,
as the problem to synchronize the shutters of the cameras is thereby eli-
minated.
Similarly the movements of the chin-point at chewing was registered.
Further, Sjóstrand registered the movements of a work-man at his machine
for studies of labour-saving. The results of these investigations are not yet
published except for brief mentionings in No. 27a.
X-ray Photogrammetry.
In No. 3, the work described has been pursued with the purpose of
applying modern photogrammetric technique of viewing and mensuration
to intra-oral radiodontia where such methods have previously been followed
to but a limited extent (Chap. I). The photogrammetric principles are de-
fined and the requirements for their adaptation to intra-cral radiography
explained (Chap. II). With these as a guide, the procedure for obtaining
picture material which can be treated photogrammetrically has been work-
ed out (Chap. III). Further, such a procedure is tested in practice by con-
struction of an experimental apparatus (Chaps. IV, V). This is examined
with respect to its efficiency and application (Chap. VI). With the aid of
the apparatus, clinical radiographic material has been prepared and studied
as to its properties and compared with intra-oral material obtained with
earlier methods (Chaps. VII, VIII). In an appendix Hjelmstróm has given
the mathematical-technical background of the X-ray photogrammetry and
has investigated the sources of error.
Hjelmstróm has also with the collaboration of Lónnerblad and by the
aid of X-rayphotogrammetry performed a reconstruction of animal skulls.
The work was carried out in the authograph A6 which was specially equipped
for the purpose. The results of this work are not yet published.
Experiments were also made by Hjelmstróm and Adams-Ray to deter-
mine variations of volume of internal organs of the human body by the aid
of X-ray photogrammetry.
A number of other investigations are being made at present in different
domains of application.
