The exploitation of new areas, such as Labrador, is being pushed with vigor,
and the techniques of airphoto interpretation are being used very extensively.
These methods, combined with intensive ground checks of areas found promis-
ing, are probably the only way in which the concessions can be checked within

the allowable time limits. However, old areas are receiving attention also, and
as an example, we note that the Sudbury nickel-bearing region has been photo-
graphed at both large and small scales and a number of new geological facts
have been obtained from this photography, which was executed primarily for
topographic mapping.
The district of Thetford Mines, famous as an asbestos producing area, has
recently been topographically mapped by phogrammetric methods. It may be
predicted with confidence that geological map revisions will result from the
geological interpretation of this photo coverage.
As the results of many of the studies now underway become known, it is
expected that greatly expanded use of the techniques of airphoto interpretation
will take place, probably within the next five years.
