sion III itself. As it happened already to other Commissions that have since long felt
the necessity of this division in the different fields of interest, also Commission III
ean no longer maintain in a single presidency office, the organizing and informing
activity responding to such a wide dominion.
It 18 suggested therefore, to discuss during the Congress, the proposal made by
this Presidency Bureau: namely to divide the Commission III task into 4 sub-com-
missions whose tasks are within the limitations of the 4 above mentioned sections.
The Commission Presidency Bureau, quite apart from: 1st) coordinating each
sub-commission's activity; 2nd) directing possible research-work of a mainly scien-
tifie character; 3rd) preparing the Commission general report and fixing the Commis-
sion program of the several congress-sessions, should take on the task of directing
of one of the 4 sub-commissions.
d) During the VIII Photogrammetry Congress last session, dedicated to Com-
mission IIT, some resolutions were carried out, the last of which (n. 5) recommends
the formation of « a working group for the application to photogrammetry of mathe-
matical statistics and the theory of errors». This group of studies has never been
formed, nor has Commission III ever strived to create 1t. In fact, 1t has not yet been
deemed possible, from a statistical point of view, to face the problems concerning
practical photogrammetry.
Dispersion and variety of methods employed, are such that any attempt to sta-
tistical analysis would have had, first of all, to face the insuperable problem of co-
ordinating methods and their uniformity.
The problem for appointing such working group shall be resumed during the IX
Congress's discussions and, if thought 1t useful, this subject too will be included with
those interesting Commission III and entrusted to a fifth sub-commission.
