GENERAL 
As the preparations for the 12 th International Congress 
of ISP are on the way in the year 1972,Turkey is completing 
its 43 rd year in photogrammetric application activity.With 
the photogrammetric application activity that was first intro- 
duced in 1929 with terrestrial methods,quite a large number of 
maps of the country have been produced until 1972,beginning 
with the completion of the 1:25 000 topographic maps the amount 
of which approaches 6000 sheets and extending to the prepara- 
tion of different purpose maps between scales of 1:1 000 and 
1:25 000.Among such maps are the 1:5 000 STK (Standart-Topo- 
graphic-Cadastral) maps, the production of which is still being 
carried out. 
Basic education of the photogrammetric science is perform- 
ed in Technical Universities and Higher Technical Schools in 
Turkey.Photogrammetry is being carried out by mainly the 
General Directorate of Mapping and the General Directorate of 
Cadastre and Land Registration in the country scale.Further- 
more,such institutions carrying out investigations in relation 
with earth sciences,as parts of the ministries of Forestry, 
Reconstruction and Resettlement,Power and Natural Resources 
also deal with specific purpose photogrammetric studies. 
To be able to provide for the coordination of education 
and application activity carried out in the country, to increase 
productivity and to support research studies,efforts for the 
establishment of the TURKISH NATIONAL SOCIETY OF PHOTOGRAMMETRY 
are going on and satisfactory results are expected in a very 
near future. 
Hence, the national and international studies from now on 
will be carried out in a more positive manner with an establish- 
ment, the organization and operation of which is parallel to 
that of the INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF PHOTOGRAMMETRY.
