The department is developing a photogrammetric system employing the 
Hasselblad 500 C camera with a view to wider photogrammetric application in the 
field of costal studies. 
ABERYSTWYTH.UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF WALES Dept. of Geography 
Work continues in comparative studies of photographic emulsions (93), 
extending into vegetation mapping and animal counts. 
Investigations into computer analysis and presentation of profile data have 
been undertaken, in relation to hydrological and geomorphological studies. 
Programs are being developed to plot profiles, or parts of profiles, 
at varying 
scales and formats. 
Automated contouring from such data will also be possible 
and comparisons will be made with conventional contouring and profiling with a 
Santoni Stereo-simplex III with Tomograph attachment which the Department 
recently purchased. 
AWRE ALDERMASTON 
The organisation has developed two inexpensive methods of producing 
contour maps of three dimensional models. The first employs interference 
fringes, whereby the contours can be seen and photographed. The second 
method uses real images of holograms. 
BIRMINGHAM.UNIVERSITY OF ASTON IN BIRMINGHAM Dept. of Civil 
Engineering 
In October 1971 a National Remote Sensing Centre was established in the 
Surveying and Photogrammetry Section of the Department of Civil Engineering 
to provide a focal point for research into remote sensing of the environment. 
The department is well equipped photogrammetrically with Wild A7 and B8 
plotters, EK5 automatic recorders, Stereometric cameras, scanning stereoscopes 
and so on; and is planning to acquire digital densitometers and other equipment. 
A director and four research personnel are already working at the centre, in 
Co-operation with a number of industrial bodies. 
BKS SURVEYS LTD 
BKS has been largely responsible for the further development of digital 
ground model systems within the United Kingdom and in recent times has 
developed the string contour system for highway design in UK. This system 
has been adopted for use by a number of highway authorities in 1971.
