Introduction
The importance of photogrammetry has remarkably increased in Finland
since 1972. This has been manifested mainly by the introduction
of new technological applications and by extensive investigations.
During the years 1972-1975 special attention has been paid to
analytical photogrammetry, remote sensing, photointerpretation and
applications of engineering photogrammetry. The introduction of auto-
mation into the production of maps has given the past term a significance
of its own.
Research has been directed mainly to the calibration of cameras and
instruments, to investigations on the quality of aerial photographs, to
remote sensing, and to various applications of the interpretation of
aerial photographs.
Research work has been done mainly at the Institute of Photogrammetry
of the Helsinki University of Technology and in the Laboratory of Land
