photography normal to the dome at a range of approximately 2 m. The camera
was mounted in a specially constructed cradle so that there were no obstructions
such as tripod legs between the lenses and the dome surface. Restitution of the
photography was carried out in a Zeiss (Jena) Stereometrograph. Photogram-
metric plotting from stereograms of children's faces, as reported at both
the 1968 and 1972 congresses, has continued on a regular basis during the
period currently under review.
UNIVERSITY OF GLASGOW, Department of Geography
Detailed elevations have been plotted for two buildings in the locality.
HATFIELD POLYTECHNIC, School of Natural Sciences
The stability of chalk slopes is being investigated using terrestrial photo-
grammetric methods.
H M DOCKYARD PORTSMOUTH, Ministry of Defence (Navy)
Evaluation of photogrammetry applied to interior and exterior warship work
has recently been completed (45). Various projects including hull form and
installation layouts were investigated using stereopairs produced from Zeiss
(Oberkochen) SMK 40 and SMK 120 photography and plotted on the Zeiss (Jena)
Technocart stereoplotter. Photogrammetry shows potential in this field and
work is continuing.
HIGHLANDS FABRICATORS LIMITED, Brown and Root - Wimpey
Terrestrial photogrammetry is being used at the Nigg fabrication yard to aid
the dimensional checks required in the fabrication and erection of North Sea
oil rigs (111, 112). The system used includes a Zeiss (Jena) UMK 10/1318
camera and 1818 stereocomparator with digitiser and on-line connection to a
Wang 600 desk top computer.
HUNTING SURVEYS LIMITED
Volumetric surveys in the UK using both vertical and terrestrial photography
have been related to reservoir sites, coal stocks at power stations and the
stabilisation of potentially dangerous cliff faces.
Extensive use has been made of terrestrial photogrammetry for the plotting
of historic buildings, including Camber Castle, Maxstoke Priory, Howden
Minster and Castle Rising, for restoration and archival purposes. Equipment
used included the Wild P31 and Zeiss (Jena) UMK 10/1318 cameras and, for
plotting, the Wild A5.
