GENERAL REPORT OF COMMISSION II

According to the Articles of the International Society of Photogrammetry, the 2nd Com

re set up by the resolutions that I.S.P., i.e. the general meeting, approves at the
end of each congress.
The Commission activity can therefore be outlined by considering the resolutions that
were passed at the end of the Ottawa conference in 1972.
1) The first resolution recommended that work on "standard tests" should be carried
on. In fact, in the four years 1968 to 1972 a Work Group had been established to
set up the rules to be followedfor testing plotting equipment, so as to establish
testing standards enabling safe and objective evaluations. This Work Group , hea-
ded by Prof. M. Dohler from the University of Karlsruhe, reported to the Ottawa
congress; on such occasion some problems were raised by the manufacturers as re-
gards the following:
a) need for establishing tests for analytical instruments;
b) problems connected with the performance of somewhat complex tests by small or
ganizations ;
c) manufacturing, and relevant cost, of the special grids needed to carryout the
tests.
It was then decided that the Work Group on "Standard Tests" should continue their
activity and improve the work made on the basis of what had emerged.
In October 1974, on the occasion of Turin Symposium of the 2nd Commission , the
Work Group held a general meeting.
The second resolution dealt with the work on "automated and digitized instruments",
and demanded that the advantages of digitizing stereo-plotting instruments should
be examined, together with experts from the fourth Commission, if the case may be,
