It is of especial advantage to combine digital orthophoto produc -
tion with a DTM, such as the DHM of SCOP (cp section 1). In that
case the recorded and processed data may be used for production
of orthophotos from photoflights of various dates. Such time-se-
ries of orthophotos are of particular interest for long-time plan-
ning processes and for the documentation of influences transfor-
ming the environment.
2.2 SORA-ST

An expanded program version SORA-ST produces the orthophoto and
additionally a stereomate in the Wild-Avioplan /2/. Those stereo-
orthophotos combine the advantage of orthophotography with the
stereo effect of large format photos under a mirror stereoscope.
The well-known interpretation difficulties that highway designers
generally experience with orthophoto maps are thus considerably
reduced. In opposition to the plotted map a stereo-orthophoto
gives a stereoscopic view.
Both orthophotos and stereo-orthophotos, which can also be copied
together with automatically mapped contour lines are especially
suited for route location and preliminary design. On this basis
topographic and geological data can be very rationally collected
and rendered in sketches. Furthermore longitudinal profiles can
be easily found along the fundamental alternative centre lines.
Further general aspects of digitally controlled orthophoto and
stereo-orthophoto production are presented in an additional pa-
per /5/. A further paper /6/ by G OTEPKA and J LOITSCH deals with
the structure and the efficiency of the program as well as with
first practical results.
2.3 SORA-MS for Rectification of Multispectral Scanner Photos

In the report of working group IV/1 presented at Ottawa in 1972,
special reference is made on page 24 to the future inclusion of
MSS-photos for geological-geotechnical studies. The use of MSS-
pictures for such studies is facilitated by previously rectifying
the MSS-pictures. The rectified MSS-photos have the same geomet-
rical properties as orthophotos. At the Institute of Photogrammet-
ry of Vienna Technical University, several MSS-photos were recti-
fied by means of the SORA-MS program and the Wild-Avioplan /7/.
The procedure is described in the publication /4/.
