DO PHOTOGRAMMETRIC PERIODICALS HAVE A FUTURE ?
BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
Jürgen Hothmer is professor of photogrammetry and cartogra-
phy at the Fachhochschule Rheinland-Pfalz, Mainz. He had
been managing director of an aerial survey company and was
engaged within the administration of the federal government.
He is treasurer of the German Society of Photogrammetry.
SUMMARY
Based on financial facts it is concluded that some
national photogrammetric periodicals possibly will not have
a chance to survive in the future. This has to be conside-
red as a draw back from the viewpoint of the ISP. To avoid
this, periodicals on a regional international basis are an-
ticipated, e.g. one East- and one West- "European Photogra-
mmetrio and Remote Sensing Periodical", When realizing this
proposal it might become necessary to publish any lengthy
contribution just as a synopsis. - The author is aware that
time probably has not come as yet for national photogramme-
trio bodies to agree on this indispensable need.
We suffer a continuing increase of printed material
whilst disposing on limited time for reading. Further, we
have to face the phenomena of increasing costs for prin -
ting as well as decreasing willingness or oapabilities of
subscribers to pay for keeping periodicals alife. As a con-
sequence, some famous soientifio periodicals already ceased
to exist. Therefore, it is justified to ask for the future
of photogrammetrio periodicals.
