Requirements
Accelerating progress is a positive feature of our
age, Much research work is done to maintain this. Scien-
tific periodicals are required to’ make the results of
these investigations known and to stimulate other rese-
archers.
Additional reasons for the existance of photogramme-
tric periodicals are to publish
— book reviews;
= reports on congresses, symposia, technical meetings
etc, ;
— niews on national and international bodies and their
activities as well as on what happens in the photogram-
metric community.
To achieve this task, a long interval between conse-
cutive publications, e.g. twice a year, is insufficient.
Difficulties
Photogrammetric periodicals are financed from two
sources: subscription and advertisements. The cost per
copy depends on the number of pages and on the print run:
- more pages result in higher costs;
— higher print run, however, decreases the costs.
No difficulty apparently exists for a photogrammetric
periodical with some 1.200 pages plus 500 pages adverti-
sement for 12 issues and a print run of 9.000. All other
photogrammetric periodicals, as far as they still exist,
present annually less than 300 pages plus 50 pages adver-
tisement with a print run around 1.000.
The main difficulty is that a print run of 1.000 is
too little for publication of a periodical at a price
which can be accepted by photogrammetrists.
