2.3. Compilation and Printing of Resource Maps
Orthophotographs with delineated resource data will be used at the Central
Resource Mapping Laboratories for production of thematic overlays.
These will be overprinted on the orthophoto base map at various combinations and
colors, depending on users requirements.
Resource orthophoto maps will provide an accurate cartographic representation
of compiled resource data, with the background photographic image important for
their location in the field. Besides the resource orthophoto maps, resource line maps
will be printed as well. They are popular with resource managers because of their
simplicity and ample space to record field observations. The line map may be
printed either separately, or on the reverse side, or next to the orthophoto map.
Process camera, selected for the cartographic photoreproduction, is KLIMSCH
SUPER AUTOHORIKA 2000. Offset printing will be done on a two-color rotary
offset press MILLER SC 36 (max. paper format 650mm x 940mm). In addition, a
flatbed offset press DAINIPPON KF-122-GL (max paper format 730mm x
1030mm) was selected for printing of smaller quantities (e.g. some thematic
overprints) and for the proof printing. Schematic flowchart for cartographic
compilation and printing of resource orthophoto and line maps is in FIG.2.
The above scheme, dividing the responsibility for production of resource maps
between a central mapping organization and the resource agencies, has a number of
advantages. Perhaps the most important is that each organization is doing only the
work which it knows best:
The mapping agency is responsible for the geodetic, photogrammetric,
cartographic and map printing operations in production of resource maps. In
addition, it is responsible for establishment and management of the National
Environmental Geographic Information System;
