Trends in Digital Cartography 
The combined trends in mapping and ADP have made the growth of digital 
cartography inevitable. However, as shown in figure 3, there are a 
number of additional trends in digital cartography that must be recog 
nized and considered as a large national mapping organization attempts 
to move from primarily an analog mode of operation into digital carto 
graphy. The first significant trend in digital cartography indicates 
the still relatively high cost of converting existing map data into
