and workflow to enable DMA to better align production with shifting customer requirements
and priorities.

data as the geospatial reference for military planning, operations, navigation, and weapon

The approach for evolving DMA's MC&G Production System rests on four fundamental concepts:
Provide a common operating environment, built on a standards-based distributed architecture.
Evolve the current capabilities by "grafting on" the new environment, retiring legacy
capabilities as they are no longer needed.
Change in what is automated. Automate capture of high value data, e.g., process history
information and metadata as much as possible. Database and exchange standards closure is a
major issue. Reduce system-enforced work flows and provide tools for users to adapt or
modify them for their own convenience.
Support Collaborative Production. Permit multiple "divisions of labor"; support "cooperative
communication" both within and across specialties. Permit on-the-spot verification of
innovative methods and procedures.
