A LARGE FORMAT CARTOGRAPHIC
CAMERA FOR SPACE SHUTTLE
Frederick J. Doyle
U.S. Geological Survey
ABSTRACT
NASA is developing a Large Format Camera (LFC) for use on
Space Shuttle missions. The camera will have 305 mm focal length
and 23 x 46 cm format. It will be capable of 15 m ground reso-
lution from 300 km orbital altitude. Initial Shuttle flights
will be as a cargo bay payload. If the data proves useful, subse-
quent flights will be on a free flyer spacecraft launched and
serviced by Shuttle.
