5. VISUALISATION
Computer visualisation makes comprehension of analyses more
efficient. Very realistic and detailed visualization becomes
possible by “planting” real images of trees on a digital elevation
model (Yoshida & Kimura, 2001). Such an approach was taken
in this study. The ancient vegetation layer produced in the
section 3 determined types of trees to be “planted” on the DEM
of the study area. The introduction of real tree images to the
visualisation enabled production of realistic close-up
perspective images. Deployment of processed data sets in this
manner is highly efficient for comprehension of past
environments. Furthermore changes of vegetation distribution
can be summarised as a movie clip.

The overhead views are suitable for two-dimensional
observations of changes of vegetation distribution. For
observations of changes along altitude, perspective views were
also produced.
