trol. Basic horizontal and vertical control was established and the
p accurate ground position of control points Was determined, usually by
1 tachymetric traverses, terrestrial triangulation or aerotriangulation .
Map Compilations: With the exception of the Hugershoff Rec-
tifier which was purchased for the purpose of compiling the Athens
T plain map in 1930, by aerial photography taken in 1929, the supply 12
2 of the basic plotting instruments was executed in two ditferent pe-
riods, one was in the year 1932, and the other in the year 1937. For
3 this reason the following instruments, of Zeiss Aerotopograph Jena
firm, were obtained, and were used in accordance to the particular
4 purpose for which they were supplied, at the time of their arrival
1 Aerocartograph Hugershoff (1932)
5 1 » with coordinatograph (1932)
2 Stereoscops with stereometer (1932)
6 2 Multiplexes (1937)
1 Radial triangulator (1932)
7 1 Rectifier Hugershoff (1930)
92 Rectifiers . (1932)
1 Automatic Rectifier (1937)
8 2 Aerosketchmasters (1937)
With these instruments, not only the whole needs of the Service were
9 satisfied, but all known methods, up to that time, were applied 1n
Aerotopography, for different purposes, and particularly for city
10 planning, and Terrestrial Photogrammetry for architectural designs.
Laboratories: For the accomplishment of secondary needs, in
the modern sence, the Phototopographic Section was equipped with
THE various assisting instruments and apparatuses. With these equip-
11 ments, the following had been accomplished :
a. Photochemical works
PHO b. Photoreproductions
( c. Photozingographic (offset) publications.
12 In a similaar to the expansion of instruments and equipments way
13 skilled personnel, and room installation was also expanded.
14 Work Performed: With reference to the accomblished work,
the following should be mentionned :
218 flights with a total of taken pictures 36689, among which 33899
vertical photographs, and 2790 oblique ones. During the same before
Po 9nd world war period, the compiled maps by photogrammetric me-
15 thods covered an area of approximately 12000 sq. km., among
which 500 sq. km. in scale of 1:2000 and above, 4500 sq. km. in
