operators is on ıts way and that will certainly result
in a constant supply of well trained personnel on
the technician level.
Research activities
The research activities are first and foremost con-
nected with the Royal Institute of Technology in
Stockholm, where a well equipped photogrammetric
division is working. During the past four years the
main interest has been devoted to the burning prob-
lems of accuracy incl. the theory of errors. Various
applications have also received a lot of interest. A
limiting factor has been a lack of competent and
experienced research assistants as well as research
students. The governmental and private photogram-
metric organizations have been able to offer far
better salaries and future chances due to their rapid
expansion.
An extensive applied research is performed by the
»producing» photogrammetric organizations, first
and foremost by the Geographical Office, the Land
Survey Board and the Committee of Forest Photo-
grammetry. This report does not deal with the ac-
tivities connected with the two ISP-Subcommissions
IV:1 and IV: 4 entrusted to Swedish photogram-
metrists.
The Swedish Society of Photogrammetry
This society was founded in 1929 and is since then
a member of the ISP. Its main purpose is—accord-
ing to its statutes—to further the development of
photogrammetry in Sweden e. g. through organiz-
ing discussions and through distribution of reprints
of papers and reports. The society arranges sessions
with papers and discussions (the titles of the papers
during the last four years is to be found in appen-
dix 1) and around-the-table-discussions about actual
problems e.g. the accuracy standards. No journal
is published but reprints of interesting papers are
distributed to the 205 individual and 10 coopera-
tive members of the Society.
OG SWEDEN
The Society has taken over the responsibility for
the remaining stock of the International Archives
of Photogrammetry, Vol. XII, containing proceed-
ings and papers from the VIIIth International Con-
gress of Photogrammetry, held in Stockholm in
July 1956.
Swedish organizations actively engaged
in photogrammetric work
To give a certain idea about those organizations a
few key-data are listed in appendix 2. Military
organizations are not included. Those organizations
which just buy the finished photogrammetric pro-
ducts and take no part in its production are as well
not included. Of course the dividing line between
those two groups may be questionable.
Bibliography for the period
1/1 1956—31/12 1959
The photogrammetric developments are usually pre-
sented in papers in Swedish and foreign journals
etc. but as space does not permit even abstracts we
limit the presentation in this report to a condensed
list of printed papers as appendix 3.
Concluding statement
This report is an attempt to present the status of
Swedish photogrammetry in 1960 and what has
happened between the Stockholm and the London
congresses. The presentation is not complete and
there has been no possibility to weight the various
activities against each other.
Swedish photogrammetry has consolidated its po-
sition, the production facilities are pretty well
dimensioned—except a lack of personnel, especially
on university level—the interest in developments
of methods and means is great within the govern-
mental as well as within the private organizations.
The international cooperation within the ISP, e. g.
through its stimulating congresses every four year,
has played an important róle in this evolution pro-
cess.
