ITC INTERNATIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHY OF PHOTOGRAMMETRY

F.L. Corten
DELFT
Every photogrammetrist is faced with two questions:
"How to become informed about the information that exists on
any particular subject in photogrammetry , no matter in what
year, journal or language this was published"
and
"How to remain continuously informed about the flow of arti-
cles, books, theses, reports and patents published in some 10
or 20 countries in the field of aerial survey".
The only answer to these questions is &n International Biblio-
graphy of Photogrammetry. Such a bibliography was started in
1958 and is now available to all photogrammetrists. Its main
characteristics are described in this report.
ORIGIN AND PRESENT ORGANIZATION.

The bibliography originated from an urgent need: the photogrammetrist must have a
means of access to experiences made by others and made available in some form of
publication.
To this end, Prof. Dr. W. Schermerhorn offered the assistance of the ITC to the In-
ternational Society of Photogrammetry in 1955 and in 1958 we started the prelimin-
ary edition of the International Bibliography of Photogrammetry in cooperation
with national societies and with some specialized organizations.
The basic function of literature screening and abstracting is carried out by col-
laborators in the various countries; abstracts are made by colleagues ( sometimes
cooperating in national abstracting committees ) of all photogrammetric publica-
tions edited in their country. The abstracts are sent to the ITC where they are
classified, translated if necessary, processed, edited, printed and distributed.
EDITION.
Form,
The bibliography is edited in the form of & card index, international library size
75 x 195 mm, carrying abstracts of all publications of interest to the photogram-
metrist. The card abstracts are accessible through a multiple entry: according to
author , to subjects and to various points of view. Each title is printed on more
than one card (on the average 5 cards per title) and appears once in alphabetical
order in the "author set" and in decimal classification order in the "subject set"
in as many copies as there are subjects and points of view in the subject heading.

Publications.
All publications which are generally or publicly available are screened: books ,
journals, theses, reports and patents, from any country.
Contents.
The bibliography is intended to cover the complete theory and all important tech-
niques and applications of photogrammetry and aerial survey. Examples of related
items are: survey flight and navigation, aerial photography, orientation and map-
ping techniques, photogrammetric methods, instruments, control; optics, photography,
mathematics, electronics and automation as far as they are related to photogram-
metry; photo-interpretation and engineering techniques, geography , forest inventory
and management, photogeology, soil survey, regional planning, civil engineering,
reconnaissance, and other applications; research, education, international rela -
tions and space photogrammetry.
