photos obtained from test photographing. It shows the playground bulldozed by a heavy roller
and part of its surroundings. Nothing substantive is seen in the panchromatic photo except
that it is a playground.
However, in the infrared photo, difference in color tone in parts A and B is distinctly
visible. Judging from surrounding conditions, it is clear that part A is the part where cutting
was done while part B is the place where banking was carried out. Judging from the topo-
graphy, it is presumed that the spot was possibly a paddy field prior to the carrying out of
banking. Because of the different work of cutting and banking, moisture contained in the
soil of the paddy field might have undergone a considerable change.
It is a characteristic of infrared photos that watery places generally come out black.

(2) Photo 2 is the example that shows the difference between the farm and trees in
the same area as (1).
The farm land, which comes out in almost identical color tone in the panchromatic
photo, is shown in extremely varied color tones in the infrared photo.
Roads are visible more clearly in the infrared photo than in the panchromatic photo.
It is presumed that difference in color tone of paved road and gravel road will be great. It
is also easy to confirm the railway because it comes out darker than roads.
It is also interesting to note that difference in the variety of trees comes out not only
