The data tablet is the main device available to the operator for
control of the SAS. It has two main areas. The lower part contains
selections for menu responses via the cursor puck. The upper part
is the display monitor reference area used for tracing with the cursor
or, like a trackball, for remotely controlling the movement of a camera.
Camera movement can be continuous or in discrete increments, for roaming
or scrolling. The monitor reference area is also used for controlling
the position of digital image memory displays for roaming around an
image or scrolling two images in a split screen fashion. The position
of the tablet cursor in the monitor reference area is tied to the
movement of the video cursor when annotations are digitized.
The terminal is used for an I/O device together with the data tablet
functions. It is used to initiate the workstation session and provides
a way for the analyst to monitor and control a session. The CRT screen
is used to display menus activated with the selection of tasks from
the data tablet's cursor keypad. Data is entered through screen menus.
The menu formatted software validates and verifies certain data entered
at this terminal such as source material projection type, chart
boundaries, and registration control geographic coordinates. The
workstation terminal can be used to control operation of an input
station as when entering a geographic position and requesting the
camera to move to that point over a registered map. It is also used
to display requested data such as input station status or the present
position of a camera over a registered chart (in geographic latitude
and longitude values). This terminal can also be used as a separate
unit not connected to the workstation for file editing, software
updating and system maintenance. There are more available ports for
terminals. We have two on order. These terminals can be used for
editing . files, initializing charts, updating software, hardware
trouble-shooting, etc. without occupying the workstation.
