Full text: Photogrammetric and remote sensing systems for data processing and analysis

VIII CONCLUSION
The domain of integrated photogrammetric systems is broad, complex and
dynamic; hence it cannot be dealt with comprehensively by a working group
in one inter-congress period. The initial effort is therefore focussed on
a few sub-areas of main interest; other parts might be considered
fragmentarily.
The potential of integrated systems lies in their versatility and
flexibility, such as the ability to merge information from different
sources to a homogeneous data base, and to generate diverse information
products. Further important properties are intense near-real-time ex-
change of information and data between the data base and the different
system components in all process stages (inclusive collection), and op-
timal use of the resources.
Systems for large- and very large scale (detailed) data bases are of spe-
cial interest. This is because the utility of such information is by far
the greatest, and the need for it tends to grow steadily.
Sub-systems for differential mapping applicable to updating, upgrading
and forming new thematic data bases are gaining in importance. They can
be composed of the already existing components of integrated systems with
minor addition.
Large scale data bases can be made compatible with those at medium and
small scales via conversions of structures, formats, codes and symbols.
Such conversions are part of the generalisation process, to be included
in broad integrated systems.
