3.5. Analytical Plotter Image Scanners
The WILD AC 1 Analytical Plotter will be equipped with two AQUA TV HR-600 CCD cameras to
allow for the image scanning of the photographs at both stages. The generated analog video signals
will be transferred to the VIOB, A/D converted and processed at the DIPS.
4. Planned Extensions and Improvements
A video tape recorder will be added for the use of the solid state cameras in remote locations.
For terrestrial applications in machine and robot vision it is intended to add two more CCD cameras
in order to run a four camera system for better reliability and accuracy performance.
In the course of the extension the processing board and the bus system of the host computer will
be replaced. The new host computer will be based on the VME bus. It will have a MC68020
processor with memory management unit (MMU) and a MC68881 floating point unit (FPU).
Additionally there will be another MC68020 as l/O processor. In this version the MC68020 will be
clocked at 16.7 MHZ, such delivering up to 2.6 MIPS. This computer will be running under UNIX V.
The Video Input Output Board (VIOB) will be replaced by a new board called ICS. It comprises the
following components:
- preamplifier for the analog video signal
- ICS framegrabber which can accept images with up to 1024 x 1024 x 8 bit pixels and non
standard video signals
- ICS Real-Time Image Enhancement System: operations such as integration, averaging, and
online subtraction can be done within a video cycle. Operations like convolutions with
masks of 3 x 3 up to 7 x 7 and recursive operations will take several video cycles.
Furthermore histogram based point operations, linear and nonlinear histogram operations
and look-up table operations can be performed
- two fast image memory banks with bit plane addressing
- hardware histogrammer
A new high resolution display board has separate video memory, D/A converters, look up tables
and several graphic processors for high resolution displays.
The monitor will be replaced by a large, high-resolution color monitor with about 1280 x 1024
pixels, 60 HZ non-interlaced. A trackball will be installed in addition to the digitizer to enable stereo
measurements off the screen. The programming terminal will be replaced by a bit-mapped screen
with windows, graphics capabilities, and a mouse interface.
