ABSTRACT
To calibrate the wind speed and vector from SAR, we need the observational data. But the in situ data
observed daily in offshore region is only one in Japan. So, in this study firstly we estimate the wind speed
and wind vector using weather map. Secondly we calibrate the estimated data by observational data in
nearshore and offshore region and scatterometer. The correlation among wind vector from weather map,
scatterometer and observational data is above 0.8. But the correlation of wind speed in near shore region is
0.51, and in offshore region the correlation is 0.4. This study shows that the wind speed using SAR data is
not effective, so father research must be paid attention to dynamical model for explaining the wave - wind
interaction. And the vector from weather map is accurate well, so it becomes a good data for calibration of
wind vector using SAR data.
