Barrett, Rachel
These meteorological conditions and irrigable krasnozem soils make the North West Coast of Tasmania, and the study
area, particularly suited to the production of many crops including pharmaceutical poppies, pyrethrum, potatoes, peas,
beans, carrots and onions for both processing and fresh market. Other vegetable crops include pumpkin, broccoli,
cauliflower, and corn for the fresh domestic market and seed production. Cereals such as barley, oats, wheat and
triticale are mainly grown for stock feed.
