1.4 LINEAMENTS IN TEHRI-UTTARKASHI 
REGION 
Four groups of lineaments were established in Tehri- 
Uttarkashi region, which trend NW-SE, NE-SW, N-S and E-W 
(Fig. 1a). It is to state that these groups were closely linked with 
thrusts, faults, joints and anticlinal/synclinal axes. Many NW- 
SE trending lineaments were developed along the Budhakedar 
Thrust, North Almora Thrust, Garhwal Thrusts etc. The 
majority of NE-SW and NW-SE trending lineaments are 
expressions of the regional joint patterns. The N-S lineaments 
show development parallel to faults and faulted anticlinal 
fold axes controlling the flow of a number of drainage 
channels e.g., Jalkur, Rano and Syalam gad. The E-W 
lineaments show preferred orientation but exhibit less 
control on drainage.

1.5 STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF LINEAMENTS 
The spatial relationship and synoptic analysis of lineaments was 
carried out by measuring the length and azimuth of each of the 
lineaments as demarcated by satellite images. Based on the 
litho-tectonic setting of the area, the lineaments are present in 
Krol block (slate-limestone-quartzite formations), Chandpur 
block (Phyllite formations), Pratapnagar block (quartzite) and 
Crystalline block (Gneiss and Schist). Each of the blocks is 
separated from the adjacent block by a major thrust of regional 
extent. There are approximately 1096 lineaments present in the 
Krol, Chandpur, Pratapnagar and Crystalline blocks.
