The REmote Sensing On-line Retrieval System (RESORS) is a computerized
information service which provides free and rapid access to bibliographic
references relating to the techniques, instrumentation, and applications
of remote sensing, photogrammetry and image analysis. RESORS maintains.a
comprehensive collection of reports, journals, and symposia literature, primarily
in English and French, with a small collection of foreign reports.
Literature is selected for inclusion in RESORS if it deals directly with
the observation, from a distance, of the atmosphere or earth surface environments,
or with the processing and analysis of the data collected. Each document
entered in RESORS is manually indexed from the full text of the document using
controlled subject keywords. The selected keywords are assigned values which
reflect their specific importance within the document. This allows references
to be correlated (X relevance) against a user's search description.
Requests for information can be received by telephone or mail. RESORS can
also be accessed by direct dial or via the DATAPAC network, The total number
of documents in RESORS as of January 1982 was over 31, 000 documents with 400
to 500 added per month. In the past year, over 7,000 information searches supplied
121,000 literature references to remote sensing specialists worldwide.
To make a RESORS request 1) write a brief, but explicit, description of
your specific interest and/or 2) describe your area of interest by suggesting
a list of keywords and category codes. There are over 1600 keywords in the
RESORS dictionary which is available free upon request.
Authors who would like to bring their publications before a wider audience
are invited to send fully-referenced copies for inclusion in RESORS. This will
enable us to widen our coverage, and to increase the availability of new
information to the remote sensing community.
