id
ter basins are analysed using images for
irrigated agriculture regions of the de-
sert zone.
In mountain regions images are used for
showing natural catastrophic destructive
processes both endogenic seismic activity,
volkanism and exogenic, first of all ava-
lanches-nudflowes activities, landslides,
stone falls, rock falls as well as for
studies of their.
Connections with antropogenic impact be-
sides this complex of negative processes,
developing in different natural zones
with different economic use, azonal indu-
strial impact of different types of mi-
ning industry are shown at space images.
It is supposed to show ecological situa-
tion in heavy populated regions and city
aglomerations reflected at images as well
as main recreation zones and territories.
The second part of the Atias connected
with solving of specific ecological pro-
blems - global, regional and local - will
contain analusis of ecological situations
with the help of images, their map compi-
lation and samples of cosmic information
use not only for showing some situation
but for solving of the emerged problems.
The following "hot spots" of the country
- the Aral and the Arai area; region of
ecological disaster becouse of overgra-
zirg - Kalmykya; regions of erosion pro-
cesses development in Centrai Chernosem
part of Russia; industrial regions of
Southern Ural, Kuzbass and the Center of
European Russia; regions of mining indu-
strynon ferrowsmetallurgy at the North —
at Kola peninsula and around Norilsk with
their dammege at forest vegetation; regi-
ons of oil extraction at the North and in
the Vestern Siberia; regions of defores-
tation and industry impact at forests in
European part of Russia and Siberia; the
Baikal region and the BAM route; the Mo-
Scow and Sanct-Peterburg aglomerations
and other regions will be presented as
examples.
Now we have finished to compile some
blocks of sheets from the second, "appli-
ed" part of Atlas. Ecological problems,
connected with desertificatin, are shown
at the Aral area and Kalmykya examples.
For the vide zone of Aral impact - Kyzyl-
kum desert - a series of maps in scale
1:8 000 O00 is compiled, including maps
of modern landscapes, processes of deser-
tification, degree of desertification and
recommendations for it preventing, and
the map of geoecological estimation of
landscapes. Analogue series will be given
for near-Aral area in scale 1:2 500 000.
For Southern Aral area with Amudarya del-
ta landscapes dynamics have been analysed
by multitemporal space pictures in scale
1:1 COO O00 and 1:200 000 and maps of hy-
drogenic ecosystems for different dates
and their dynamics have been compiled.
For Kalmykya region space pictures show
types and factors of desertification in
this area - overgrazing and pasture dig-
ression; sand storms at areas of sand so-
ils plouging; sand dunes moving at rouds
and buildings; salinization due to unra-
tional melioration and hydroengineering
constractions. Maps of land use, proces-
Ses of desertification and desertifica-
tion forecast on 20-20 years are compiled.
Another block of sheets connects with
problem of deforestation. Old maps for
European part of Russia (1870), compared
with space piotures, give the possibili-
ty to analyse forest-boundaries dynamics
and to compile maps of forests dynamics
for some standard sites (1:1 000 000).
Man's impact at forests, such as cutting,
fires, agriculture and industry damage
is shown at space pictures of Siberia,
The Atlas will serve for ecological edu-
cation of workers from different bronches
of Earth sciences and economy and for
population. It will become à scientific
methodics manual for use of cosmic infor-
mation for ecological map compilation,
environmental impact assessment and soiv-
ing of ecological problems for specia-
lists.
