depends on it. They may use up dating remote
sensing data from: MSS, TM, SPOT, ERS-1,
JERS-1, IRS-1A and IB, ALMAZ-1 SPOT 5B
and RADARSAT, in the future launch CBERS-1,
CBERS-2, IRS-1C, Resours2, ADEOS,
ALMAZ2, CTA Clark, Earth Watchl, TRW
Lewis, Earth Watch2, Eyeglass Space Imaging2,
SPOT 5A and IRS-ID. This theme is so
important and the Ministry of the Brazilian Air
Force and Ministry of the Science and
Technology are making surveys in this area.
The Brazilian Air Force will provide
with the Brazilian society this service of mapping
the Amazon. Cartography is information, data.
The BAF (FAB) will maintain patterns of
precisions and resolutions established by the
International Society of Photogrametry and
Remote Sensing and the International
Cartographic Association, to wich the Brazilian
Society of Cartography is associated.
The CCSIVAM and INPE are
developing surveys for adopting the airbone SAR
in the X and L bands. X for cartography and L
for biomass available. The resolution are from
18m X 18m to 3m X 3m, the Brazilian airplane
will made operation during 9 hours and 15
minutes in missions programmed until 8 hours
per flight. The boarding processing is real time
and digital maps are acceptable in format like
Landsat, SPOT, ERS-1, and JERS-1, using of the
SPRING software developed by INPE. Maps will
be from 1:25.000 until 1:100.000. The Brazilian
System of the Environmental Monitoring, which
will be done by Brazilian Air Force, may provide
maps of all the Amazon in 45 (forty-five) days,
with better resolution and precision.
"The environmental question in the Amazon
should not been seen from the point of one of
threats for the opportunities it offers". ALMEIDA
(1994) Colonel of the Brazilian Air Force,
working at the Brazilian Embassy in Venezuela.
