FIGURE 6 Stereo plotäng simulator (SPS)
The introduction of these electronic components permits not only simulating elimination of
parallaxes (training in stationary stereoscopic measurements) and plotting of planimetry and hei
ghts (training in dynamıc stereoscopic measurements), but aiso the following processes:
- Relative and absolute orientations as executed on an analogue stereoplotter
- Relative and absolute orientations as executed on an analytical plotter
— Plotting in track or line model with a semrautomatic drawing table
- Profiling for orthophotography data acquisition
— By adding a simple registration device, digital off-line mapping and of course all processes
including, or derived from, those listed above.
For training purposes, the stereopairs used in the SPS have been rectified at ITC with the Wild
OR-1. This has the advantage that the orientation of the stereo model is always well known (zero
position) and can be recalled at any time. This material will also be available for use with any type
of stereo plotting instrument, and purchasers of both the TPPO and SPS wno wish to use their
own photographic materials can ask ITC to process them
The advantages of the SPS include:
— It will simulate the operations which can be executed on both analogue and analytical
plotters
— It will be rnuch cheaper than a production instrument
— It will be ““trainee-friendly*’, thus speeding up mastery cf skills
— It will eliminate conflicts between training and production needs.
SPECIAL PROGRAMME FOR TRAINING TPPU SUPERVISORS
Although the training packages are designed for individual study, qualified training supervisors
will still be needed. We have therefore developed a special 10 week course which will be given at
ITC for photogrammetric technologists (preferably ITC-trained) who will fill these supervisory
positions in mapping organizations. The course will enable the potential supervisor to efficiently
introduce the TPPO in his organization and ensure continuation af the training (see Figure 7).
