storm water. The flood hazard areas delineated on the basis of multidate RS data have been recommended for
conservation. Similarly high erosion prone areas have been recommended for conservation under green belt.
CONCLUSIONS
RS and GIS techniques based approaches have improved the preparation of development plans of
Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority area. The information system created using RS and GIS based
methodologies has facilitated working out sustainability of urban environment and generating alternate planning
scenarios. Development plan has given emphasis on social and economic needs of the region and carrying capacity of
the region.
The information system has flexibility to accommodate any new data and provides integration as well as
updation. It allows to aggregate the information at any level i.e. Development authority or Regional level.
