ABSTRACT 
The multispectral imagery and IR color imagery have Been used to ana- 
lyse some problems, and have gained some achievement by optical interpretation 
equipment and digital image processing system in China, 
These problems: are: 
(1) Revised physiographical subregion map and soil erosion investigafi- 
on im Yellow river, 
(2) Interpretation of geologic structure at Three Gorge dam site of 
Yangtze river, Pan Jia Kou Peserwoir of Luan river, Da Tong Electric Power 
plant and' Er Tan Hydac Electric: Power plant, 
(3) Research of estuaries, Dongtiing lake, and study of temperature fi- 
eld of cooling water att Tai Yuan electric power plant by thermal IR image,

Remote Sensing is widely used for water conservancy. and Electric Pow 
wWer,such ass the analysis of water resources, the mapping of surface water, 
the measurement of snow cover, the rapid mapping of flooded areas ( monito- 
ring of flood 3s the measurement of water quality and'pollution, the study - 
of Soil moisture and evapotranspiration ( monitoring of drought ), the study 
of engineering geology, the study of lake, estuary, intertidal habitat depa- 
sit and river course variation, the analysis of Selection Best route for po- 
wer lines from Electric power plant tio city etc. Chinese scientists, engin- 
eers of water conservancy and electric power are fully aware of the urgency 
of finding solution for the above problems and' of the neccessity of employing 
ihe latest, most satisfactory and most effective techniques, 
China: is a Country with a vast territory, there are a lot of big rive-- 
rs, lakes: and high mountains, we can not find solution for: the above proble- 
ms, timely and keep effective monitoring by traditional techniques, we app- 
reciate the success and achievement of the Landsat system and the associated 
applications program in various field, chinese government decided to establi-
