1. Photo-mosaic and false color composite image ar 
The Yellow River is The Second' largest river in China, the photo-mo- co 
saic has been made by ERIS-1, ERTS-2 imagery, its scale is 1:800,000, there re 
are a lot of information of geologic structure, geomorphology, river system ; re 
and vegetation cower, MSS Band 4 (045-061) is: senstive to the water trans= is 
parency and frozen ground; MSS Band 5 ( 0,6-0,7 n ) is an excellent image gu 
for vegetation cover, geomorphology, geology, and is optimum for recognizing 11 
contacts between forest and cultivated lands MSS Band 6 (0.7-0.8 n ) is ope un 
timum for recognizing vegetation differences, even for distinguishing betwe — la 
en deciduous and coniferous trees; MSS Band 7 (0.8-1.1 n ) is optimum for sea 
recognizing reservoir, canal, road and contacts between land and water, and 
for distinguishing between normal and fired forest, Now, the false color com 
posite image has been used for the color photo-mossaic of Yellow river basin, 
it will be fulfiled by the end of this year. 
The Project of diverting water from south to north in eastem China 
( tne Central Route ) is one of the Chinese people's great projects in re- 
moulding nature, In this project, water which is abundant in the Yangtze 
( the largest river in China ) will be diverted to Beijing and Tianjing (tha 
third largest City in China ). The 1600 km long diverting route will cross 
three provinces . Now, the color photo-mossaic is made, with scale 131,000, . 
000, The faults, geomorphic enpressions and rock types of the route are 
analysed to find some solutonsfor the problems in regional stability, ear- 
thquake magnitude geological condition, hydrogeological condition, and so on. 
2, Revision of physiographical subregion map and investigation of so - 
il erosion in the Yellow river.The pliysioraphical subregion map of middle 
course of the Yellow River is revised by Landsat false color composite ima- le 
ge « Its scale is 1:500,000, The old physiographical Subregion map was made the
