AGRICULTURAL AND URBAN SITES AND ON COASTAL ZONES

Spectral data were acquired with an airborne scanner on different sites
and dates in 1981. From these measurements, simulations of SPOT HRV,
LANDSAT D MSS and TM were computed.
The simulation technique and its limitations will be presented, showing
the effects of instrumental and environmental characteristics (atmospheric
effects, observation conditions).
A comparison of simulated measurements on an agricultural site will be
presented for the visible and near infrared bands. Separability and varia-
bility will be studied with respect to the spectral responses in two cases :
first, assuming the same EFOV for the three instruments and then taking into
account the averaging effect related to the different EFOVs.
On urban areas, due to the enhancement in geometric resolution from LANDSAT
MSS to SPOT panchromatic data, the analysis can now be conducted more on
their structures than only on their density.
The first two spectral bands of TM show some discrimination on coastal zones
that are not obtained through the SPOT spectral bands, while wave pat-
terns can be observed on SPOT panchromatic data.
