his paner leals with the possibility of applying
Landes data in the estimation of forest timber vo-
lumes.
The EPDCS system was used for MSS data processing.
The seore model, a new ouantization method in which
interactions are considered, was adopted in such a
way as to make possible the use of MSS data and some
grouni tru data.
The nrocadures followed are lis;ed 5elow:
1. EL lero 3x*5730591 aocoriing to
folest co3708 : 377 +, deciduous and mixed
stands) and age has (youne, middle-aged and old
gtands). The timber volume in each training sample
vas measured out.

2. The study area Was oelissifiod i390 2 sot of
QlasdoS, jqnieh vere uec .t£ items of score model,
according to forest comoosition sn3 age class ces2s0-
tively, iziaz ^ae supervised classification method.
3. The:study area was also classified into other
sets of classes, which were used as i5ens o? score
model, using two different unsupervised eolassi?.oa-
bion ne n8.
4. The score of the items and shoir interactions
as letermiaed by means of the score model ani
suitable itens and interactions were selected ^y
statistie:! tests.
5. A tinber volume table ‘vas constructed. ‘he
timber volume corrésponding to each pixel was 3eter-
nined by the tabls. Then the total volume in tae
whole =stuly area 7.3 obtained.
