ABSTRACT
Data obtained by various remote sensors installed on board
of aircrafts or space vehicles are applied in the USSR to all in-
vestigations related to the study and utilization of natural re-
sources and to the geological mapping and mineral exploration, in
particular.
Images obtained in visible, infrared and radiowave ranges of
the electromagnetic spectrum are broadly used for the purpose. In
order to enhance informative features of the image, different me-
thods of the photographic transformation have been elaborated,
which greatly facilitate the interpretation process.
Algorithms and programmes of the computer-based processing of
remote sensing data are currently being elaborated.
The study of natural resources and environmental investiga-
tions over the vast territory of our country are hardly possible
without broad application of remote sensing data which make it
possible to rapidly reveal natural resources, to carry out their
mapping and to take combined measures aimed at the protection of
natural environment and creation of best conditions for human
life.
Remote sensing data are broadly applied in the course of geo-
logical mapping and mineral exploration. In recent years, apart
from aerial photographs which application at all steps of geologi-
cal investigations is regulated by certain instructions, space
photographs as well as radar, infrared and multiband images have
been successfully employed when solving different geological prob-
lems.
Specialists, when using remote sensing techniques, proceed
from the following facts:
- remote sensors installed on board of various vehicles record
certain physical characteristics of objects in corresponding re-
gions of the electromagnetic spectrum as well as parameters of mag-
