Abstract
Using the MSS data obtained from Landsat and AVHRR data obtained
from NOAA-6 due to the synchronous observation around Japan, the monitoring
of water characteristic is studied. Although, the the observation time of
Landsat and NOAA-6 is not thesame, the time difference is not so much and
it is considered as the boundary of synchronous observation in the study
of marine observation comparing with observation by ship.
As the technique of analysis, the digital processing of Landsat MSS
data and NOAA-6 AVHRR data are tried after the pre-processing such as
geometric correction and the superimposed imagery consisted by classified
imagery of Landsat MSS and SST contour map extracted from NOAA-6 AVHRR
is carried out.
In case of the Seto Inland Sea, one the the most polluted water area
in Japan, the water caracteristic is well extracted from the data obtained
on November 15, 1980. Normally, Landsat MSS data is used for the estimation
of water characteristic from the distribution pattern of turbid water
especially in coastal area and the SST in turbid water area is considered as
warmer than not polluted water area through the year.
But from the result of this study, the SST in almost area of turbid
water area is detected cooler than not so polluted water area in Kii Channel
and central Harimanada, eastern part of Seto Inland Sea and it is considered
effect of branch current of Kuroshio Current.
From this point of view, the multi temporal synchronous observation of
Landsat and NOAA would bring us more effective information for marine
observation in coastal area and it means the effectiveness of multi satellite
remote sensing in future.
