Many of the papers dealt with what many consider "out-dated" material and many
were too general or two narrow a subject to generate many questions. There is
Still a need to improve the presentation of papers especially in respect to
not reading the paper and in showing viewgraphs large enough to be readable.
There was also the problem of authors not showing to present the paper and not
informing the chairman of this.
II. RESULTS OF BUSINESS MEETING
Attending : V. DOLGOPOLOV, G.H. GRIFFITHS, A. GREEN, T. OSHIMA, J. ULLIMAN,
J.P. VERDIN, A. NELLWING.
Others were interested but could not attend.
We defined the purpose of our working group to provide a forum for exchanging
ideas, to assist in educating the users, to coordinate research efforts and
to promote the discipline and practical applications of remote sensing techni-
ques for agriculture, fisheries, forestry, rural environment water, wildland
recreation and wildlife.
We could do this by sponsoring a number of activities such are :
a) Participating in the organization and presentation of the
Renewable Natural Resources of America Symposium "The Application of Remote
Sensing to Resources Management" which will be held may 22-28, 1983 in Seattle,
Washington, U.S.A.
b) Prepare for the 1984 Congress in Brazil as proposed, this will
include a joint meeting with IUFRO and individual workshope on specific topics
of interest to the working group. We will attempt to have more papers on
tropical and arid lands and possibly discuss those topics in workshops.
Because of a pertinent discussion that developed during the business meeting,
the following resolution was passed and is presented for consideration
Resolve to promote the peaceful use of space to gét high resolution imagery
for practical applications to natural resource management.
The following other suggestions were developed at the meeting :
a) that ISPRS develop material on the history, functions and guide-
lines for working groups and provide the material to those concerned.
b) that a list of ISPRS publication be developed and make available.
c) that a newsletter be considered for disiminating information such
as that included in a) & b) above.
The papers presentation are generally good with three of them above the average.
