At a meeting of WG VII/9 held in Toulouse during the Symposium, dis-
cussions centered on topics most appropriate for the XV ISPRS Congress to be
held in Rio de Janeiro in 1984. Based on these discussions it was determined
that the following topics would form an important component of the sessions
For allocated to WG VII/9.
a. the relative merits of analog versus digital methods of
ver land use classification and mapping
b. the methodologies and significance of change detection studies
Cc. the integration of data from various sources and the use of
geographic information systems for studies of urban and rural
r areas in developing countries
d. the impact of improved spatial and spectral resolution (e.g.
‚ed data from the Landsat-4 or SPOT sensors) on land use analyses
from remotely sensed data, and the relationships between
resolution and map scale
e. thematic map accuracy standards and methods of assessing the
accuracy of classifications by analog and digital techniques
The above topics will be developed under the direction of members of
the working group. Anyone wishing to become involved in the activities of
the Land Use and Land Cover Working Group should contact the chairman at
the above address.
