Conclusions Gu
— Citric acid caused 50% reduction of fatigue life for type 304 steel and about 40% for 316L. axcd
Alkaline solution considerably increased the fatigue life in both cases. Fatigue life of 316L type dien
steel was higher than 304 in both environments. I
The fracture surfaces of specimens tested in all environments exhibited an intergranular — EA
transgranular mode of cracking. There was also observed fatigue striations. form:
Ductile fractures with some brittle fracture zones were observed in both cases of specimens — zo
tested in corrodant and in air.
Microcracks were initiated on pits and microvoids and inclusions determined their growth. oo
