a ; teten Gewindeformern mit unterschiedlicher Einsatzdauer durchgeführt.

To optimize the internal thread molding process a failure analyses was done on coated
perimental molding tools with different times of service. The investigations should provide basic
(2000), p. knowledge for the course of failure and the failure mechanism. The observed system
perimental consists of titanium nitride (TiN) coated tools and zinced work pieces. The morphological
mutation of the tool surface was observed by Scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The
lementen - metallographic analyses revealed the processes beyond the contact surface, the
degradation of the coating and of the substrate material causes by the tribological stress,
n, Leoben, as well as the metallic microstructure. Specimen in different phases of wear have been
ittle Discs - investigated and compared with each other. The interpretation of the obtained results
allowed the clarification of the failure mechanism an revealed possibilities to acquire the
ittle Discs - failure history.

Sstmmung 1. INTRODUCTION
The internal thread molding process is dominated by thermal, mechanical and tribological
stress. Failure analyses was done on titanium nitride coated internal molding tools for
metric thread with a diameter of 12 mm (M12) and 6 mm (M6). The results of the
derungs- investigation of commercially available M12-thread molding tools were used to understand
sellschaft the wear mechanism and to find possible improvement areas for the tribological system.
Materials This tribological system consists of the former, the tube in which the thread is formed and
